Meditation has existed for many thousands of years. It is the practice of turning one’s attention to a sole point of reference by eliminating the distracting and stressful thoughts abundant in the external environment.

Meditation is a certain quality. It is not a certain act. If you cultivate your body, your mind, your energies and your emotions to a certain level of maturity, meditation will naturally happen.

There are thousands of types of meditation which are done for different purposes. The basic ingredients for meditation are:

A quiet setting

This is particularly vital if one is new to meditation – with practice, a person becomes more skilled and will be able to meditate in noisy, crowded places or stressful situations.

A comfortable or poised posture

This need not be in a sitting up position but can be lying down, standing up, walking – as long as the person is comfortable. With this said, meditation postures across numerous traditions all maintain a straight spine as important.

A passive but receptive attitude

This is possibly the most important element of meditation because it is what keeps your mind away from the many distractions which cause stress and worry. It requires a passive attitude to prevent your both the external environment and internal thoughts from disturbing your mindset.

Instead all the distractions should be able to pass freely through the mind in a detached manner. With time it becomes easier to discard yourself of thoughts and meditate.

An object of focus

You need an object to focus. this is necessary because your mind is prone to wander here and there. So it needs an anchor to remain focused.

It is best to focus on God or else you can also focus on other things like your tongue in the air, the word OM with a long stress on it, Yoour breath and many more things.

Relaxing your Body

It is necessary that before you start meditating you relax every part of your body. to do the same you will have to focus on every detailed part of your body from scalp to toe. This is necessary so because with a stress in your muscles you wont be able reach trans.
